`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that` Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the Friday sermon to the people one day when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) pointed towards him and said, "What will be the state of those people who delay after the adhan?" So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Commander of the Faithful! When I heard the adhan, I did nothing except perform wudu; I performed wudu and came." Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Did you only perform wudu? Did the people not hear that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say that when any of you comes for Jumu'ah, he must perform ghusl?"
