It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for prayer at night, he would say: "O Allah, all praise is for You alone. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth, and all praise is for You. You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, and all praise is for You. You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. You are True, Your promise is true, Your word is true, meeting You is true, Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Hour is true. O Allah, I submit to You, I believe in You, I rely upon You, I turn to You, I argue with others for Your sake, and I seek judgment from You. So forgive my past and future sins, those I have done in secret and in open. O Allah, You are my God, there is no god but You."
