Mukhtasar Muslim

Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were sitting with Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived. Sayyiduna Bashir bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Allah has commanded us to send blessings upon you, so tell us how we should send blessings upon you?” Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained completely silent, and we wished that he had not asked (Sayyiduna Bashir, may Allah be pleased with him). Then, after a short while, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Send blessings in this way: ‘O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim, and send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim in all the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.’ And the way of sending salam (peace) you already know.”
