Hadith 277

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in such a way that when he started the prayer, he raised both his hands and said Allahu Akbar. (The narrator of this hadith, Hammam, states that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised both his hands up to his ears.) Then he put on his cloak, after which he placed his right hand over his left hand. Then, when he intended to bow (ruku‘), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took both his hands out from the cloak, raised them up to his ears, said the takbir, and went into ruku‘. And when, while standing, he said "Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah," he also performed the raising of the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prostrated between both his palms.
