Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says regarding the saying of Allah Almighty: “When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes shifted and the hearts reached the throats”—that this was revealed about the Battle of Khandaq (on that day, the Muslims faced extreme hardship. Allah Almighty said that We sent upon the disbelievers an army which you did not see, and a strong wind).
