‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that’ a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I have derived pleasure from a woman on the outskirts of Madinah, and I did everything except intercourse. Now I am present before you, so pass whatever judgment you wish regarding me.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Allah had concealed your sin; it would have been better if you had concealed it as well.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to him. Then the man stood up and left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a person after him, called him back, and recited this verse: ((Indeed, good deeds erase...)) A man said, “O Messenger of Allah! Is this ruling specific to him?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No, rather it is for everyone.”
