Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: The example of a believer who recites the Qur'an is like that of a citron, whose fragrance is pleasant and whose taste is good. And the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like that of a date, which has no fragrance but its taste is sweet. And the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like that of a flower, whose fragrance is good but its taste is bitter. And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is like that of the colocynth (bitter apple), which has no fragrance and its taste is bitter.
