Hadith 2088

‘Sayyiduna Amir bin Sa’d narrates that Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was among his camels when his son Umar came (this Umar bin Sa’d is the same one who fought against Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) and who ruined his Hereafter for the sake of this world). When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, he said, “I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this rider.” Then he (Umar) dismounted and said, “You have secluded yourself among your camels and goats and left the people while they are fighting for sovereignty?” (i.e., for caliphate and rule). Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) struck his chest and said, “Be quiet. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Allah loves the servant who is pious, rich, and (in times of tribulation and discord) hides himself in a corner.’” (And does not ruin his faith. Alas, Umar bin Sa’d forgot his father’s advice.)
