Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Nadrah that: We were with Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he said: "It is near that the people of Iraq will not receive their qafiz and dirham." We asked, "For what reason?" He said, "The non-Arabs will withhold it from them." Then he said, "It is near that the people of Shaam will not receive their dinar and mudd (mudd is a measure, just as qafiz is)." We asked, "For what reason?" He said, "The Romans will withhold it from them." Then he remained silent for a while, and after that said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'In the last part of my Ummah, there will be a caliph who will distribute wealth in handfuls (i.e., he will give money and gold coins to people) and will not count it.'" Jarir said: "I asked Abu Nadrah and Abu Alaa, 'Do you think this caliph is Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him)?' They said, 'No.' (This refers to Mahdi, who will appear in the last era of the Ummah. Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) was at the beginning.)"
