‘Ubaidullah bin Qabtiyyah narrates that Harith bin Rabi‘ah and ‘Abdullah bin Safwan both went to Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). I was also with them. They asked Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) about the army that will be swallowed up, and this was during the time when Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) was the ruler of Makkah. She said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A seeker of refuge will seek refuge in the Ka‘bah (meaning the Mahdi, peace be upon him), so an army will be sent towards him. When they reach an open plain, they will be swallowed up.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah! What about the person who is forced to be with that army (while disliking it in his heart)?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He will also be swallowed up with them, but on the Day of Resurrection he will be raised according to his intention.” Abu Ja‘far said that what is meant is the plain of Madinah.
