Sayyiduna Amir bin Sa’d narrates from his father Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came one day from ‘Aliyah (‘Aliyah are those villages which are outside Madinah) until he passed by the mosque of Banu Mu’awiyah. He entered it and prayed two rak’ahs, and we also prayed with him, and he made a very lengthy supplication to his Lord. Then he came to us and said: I asked my Lord for three things, but He granted me two and did not grant one. I asked my Lord that He not destroy my ummah by famine (i.e., the whole ummah by famine), so Allah accepted this supplication. And I asked that He not destroy my (entire) ummah by drowning, so Allah accepted this supplication as well. And I asked that Muslims not fight among themselves, but this was not granted.
