Hadith 1963

Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), says: I was standing by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a scholar from among the Jewish scholars came and said, "Peace be upon you, O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)!" I pushed him so hard that he almost fell. He said, "Why did you push me?" I said, "You mention the name of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and do not say 'Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)'?" He said, "We call him by the name his family gave him." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The name my family gave me is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Jew said, "I have come to ask you something." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If I tell you something, will it benefit you?" He said, "I will listen with both my ears." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a line on the ground with the stick that was in his blessed hand (as someone does when thinking) and said, "Ask." The Jew said, "On the day when this earth and the heavens will be changed into other earth and heavens, where will the people be at that time?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "At that time, the people will be standing in darkness near the Bridge (Sirat)." He asked, "Then who will be the first to cross that bridge?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The poor among the Muhajirun." (By Muhajirun is meant those people who left their homes and families with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), endured the hardship of poverty and hunger, and turned away from the world.) The Jew said, "Then when those people enter Paradise, what will be their first breakfast/gift?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A piece of the liver of fish (which is extremely delicious and nutritious)." He said, "Then what will be their morning meal?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "For them, the ox will be slaughtered that used to graze in Paradise." Then he asked, "After eating this, what will they drink?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The water of the spring called Salsabeel." The Jew said, "You have spoken the truth, and I have come to ask you about a matter which no one in the world knows except a Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or perhaps one or two other people." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If I tell you that matter, will it benefit you?" He said, "I will listen with my ear." Then he said, "I ask about the child." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The man's fluid is white and the woman's fluid is yellow. When these two mix together, and the man's semen prevails over the woman's, then by Allah's command, a boy is born. And when the woman's semen prevails over the man's, then by Allah's command, a girl is born." The Jew said, "Indeed, you have spoken the truth, and surely you are a Prophet." Then he turned and went away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then said, "When he asked me these questions, I had no knowledge of anything until Allah, the Exalted, gave me knowledge of it."
