Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the mosque and we were also sitting with him. Meanwhile, a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed an act deserving of a hadd punishment, so impose the hadd on me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent upon hearing this. He said again, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed an act deserving of a hadd punishment, so impose the hadd on me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. In the meantime, the prayer was established. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer and left, that man also followed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I too followed behind to see what answer the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give to that man. Then that man met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed an act deserving of a hadd punishment, so impose the hadd on me." Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "When you left your house, did you not perform ablution properly?" He replied, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Then did you not pray with us?" He replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah has forgiven your hadd or your sin."
