Hadith 1932

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that people said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you have any doubt in seeing the sun at midday when there are no clouds?" The companions replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you have any difficulty in seeing the full moon on the fourteenth night when there are no clouds before it?" The companions replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then, by Him in Whose hand is my soul! You will have no doubt, difference, or difficulty in seeing your Lord, just as you have no doubt in seeing the sun or the moon (i.e., just as there is no confusion in seeing the sun or the moon, likewise there will be no confusion in seeing Allah, the Exalted)."

"Then Allah, the Exalted, will take account from a servant and will say, 'O so-and-so! Did I not honor you, make you a chief, give you a spouse, make horses and camels subservient to you, and leave you to rule over your people and take a fourth (of the spoils)?' The servant will say, 'Yes.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Did you know that you would meet Me?' The servant will say, 'No.' Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Then today We forget you (i.e., We will not care for you and will not save you from punishment), just as you forgot Us.'"

"Then Allah, the Exalted, will take account from another servant and will say, 'O so-and-so! Did I not honor you, make you a chief, give you a spouse, make horses and camels subservient to you, and leave you to rule over your people and take a fourth (of the spoils)?' The servant will say, 'O my Lord! Yes.' Then Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Did you know that you would meet Me?' The servant will say, 'No.' Then Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Then surely today I forget you, just as you forgot Me in the world.'"

"Then He will take account from a third servant and will say to him likewise. The servant will say, 'O Lord! I believed in You, in Your Book, and in Your Messengers, and I prayed, fasted, and gave charity.' He will praise himself as much as he can. Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Look, here your lie is exposed.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Then it will be ordered, 'Now We set a witness against you.' The servant will think to himself, 'Who will bear witness against me?' Then a seal will be set upon his mouth, and his thigh, flesh, and bones will be told to speak. His thigh, flesh, and bones will bear witness to his deeds, and this testimony will be so that no excuse remains from his own self's testimony.' And this person will be a hypocrite, i.e., a false Muslim, and upon him Allah, the Exalted, will be angry (and the first two were disbelievers. God forbid, unless worship is done sincerely for Allah from the heart, it is of no benefit. Praying or fasting to show people is a calamity; it is better not to do it than to do so with such intention)."
