Hadith 1898

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he instructed a man to recite at the time of sleeping: "O Allah! You created my soul and You will cause it to die. For You is living and dying. If You keep it alive, then protect it, and if You cause it to die, then forgive it. O Allah! I ask You for well-being." A person asked him, "Did you hear this supplication from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied, "Rather, I heard it from the one who is better than Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
