It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to sleep, perform ablution as you do for prayer, then lie down on your right side and say: “O Allah! I have submitted my face to You, and entrusted my affairs to You, and relied upon You, out of desire for Your reward and fear of Your punishment. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent. There is no refuge and no escape from You except with You.” Let these be your last words (before sleeping). (And he said:) Then if you die that night, you will die upon Islam (and your end will be good). And Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I repeated these words to remember them, and instead of “Your Prophet” (binabiyyika), I said “Your Messenger” (birasoolika), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say “Your Prophet” (binabiyyika).
