Hadith 1894

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when evening came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say: "We have entered the evening, and the dominion of Allah has entered the evening. All praise is for Allah. There is no true deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, His is the dominion, to Him belongs all praise, and He is powerful over everything. O Allah! I ask You for the goodness of this night and the goodness that comes after it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil that comes after it. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evil of old age. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire and from the punishment of the grave." (The narrator) Hasan bin Ubaidullah said that Zubaid (the narrator) added to this from Ibrahim bin Suwaid, who narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Yazid, who narrated from Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he narrated it as a marfu' hadith: "There is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, all sovereignty belongs to Him, and all praise is for Him (Wahdahu la sharika lahu), and He is powerful over everything." In another narration, it is mentioned that when morning came, he would recite this same supplication in this way: "We have entered the morning, and the dominion of Allah has entered the morning..." until the end (and instead of 'night' he would say 'day').
