Hadith 1872

Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ashja'i narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! When I ask from my Lord, what should I say?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Say: O Allah! Forgive my sins, have mercy on me, protect me (from sins), and grant me (lawful and pure) sustenance." And while saying these words, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would fold one finger at a time, until all were folded except the thumb. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "These words will combine for you the benefits of both this world and the Hereafter."
