Mukhtasar Muslim

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: When this verse was revealed, "Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it," it was very hard on the Muslims (that there would certainly be punishment for every sin). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be moderate and seek the right path, and every affliction that befalls a Muslim is an expiation for his sins, even a stumble or a prick of a thorn (so that many sins are recompensed in this world, and it is hoped that there will be no reckoning in the Hereafter).
