Sayyiduna Nawas bin Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah for a year (in the manner of someone who comes from another country to meet you and intends to return to his own country), and I did not migrate for this reason (i.e., I did not abandon the intention of returning to my country), because when any of us migrated, he would not ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) anything (unlike travelers, who were allowed to ask). I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about good and evil, so he said: Goodness and virtue are good character, and sin is that which pricks your heart and you dislike that people should come to know of it.
