Hadith 1741

‘Sayyiduna Abu Burdah narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him),’ he said: We offered the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then we said that if we remain seated until we also offer the ‘Isha prayer with you, it would be better. So we remained seated, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have you been sitting here all this time? We replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! We offered the Maghrib prayer with you, then we said that if we remain seated until we also offer the ‘Isha prayer with you, it would be better. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have done well, or you have done right. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head towards the sky, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would often raise his head towards the sky, then he said: The stars are a protection for the sky; when the stars disappear, then that which has been promised for the sky will come to it (i.e., the Day of Judgment will come and the sky will be rent asunder and destroyed). And I am a protection for my companions; when I depart, then that which has been promised for my companions will come to them (i.e., tribulations, discord, and fighting). And my companions are a protection for my Ummah; when my companions depart, then that which has been promised for my Ummah will come to them (i.e., differences, disunity, etc.).
