Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Usaid Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The best house among the Ansar is that of Banu Najjar, then Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then Banu Harith bin Khazraj, then Banu Sa‘idah, and there is goodness in every house of the Ansar. Abu Salamah said that Sayyiduna Abu Usaid said: Do you think I would accuse the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? If I were lying, I would have mentioned my own tribe, Banu Sa‘idah, first. When this news reached Sayyiduna Sa‘d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he was grieved and began to say: We have been left behind, we are the last of the four. Saddle my donkey so that I may go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The nephew of Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Are you going to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to refute his words, even though he knows best? Is it not enough for you that you are the fourth among the four? Hearing this, Sayyiduna Sa‘d turned back and said: Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) know best, and he ordered the saddle to be removed from the donkey.
