Narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Aidh bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Salman, Suhaib, and Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them) were sitting among some other people when Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan came to them. They said, “The swords of Allah did not strike the neck of Allah’s enemy at their proper time (i.e., this enemy of Allah was not killed).” Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Do you say such things about the elder and chief of Quraysh?” (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr said this out of consideration, lest Abu Sufyan become displeased and not accept Islam.) Then he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Abu Bakr! Perhaps you have angered those people (i.e., Salman, Suhaib, and Bilal, may Allah be pleased with them)? If you have angered them, then you have angered your Lord.” Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to those people and said, “O my brothers! Did I anger you?” They replied, “O our brother! No, may Allah forgive you.”
