Hadith 1666

‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to travel, he would draw lots among his wives. Once, the lot fell upon me and Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and both of us set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he traveled at night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would walk alongside Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), conversing with her as they went. Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) said to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “Tonight, you ride my camel and I will ride yours; you will see what you have not seen, and I will see what I have not seen.” Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) agreed. So, she rode Hafsa’s camel and Hafsa rode hers. At night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the camel of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), on which Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) was riding. He greeted her and walked alongside her until they halted at the destination. Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) did not find the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with her that night, so she became jealous. When she dismounted, she put her feet in the idhkhir grass and said, “O Allah! Set a scorpion or a snake upon me that it may bite me. He is Your Messenger; I cannot say anything to him.”
