Hadith 1637

Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying in his house with his thighs or shins uncovered, when suddenly Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for permission to enter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission in that state and continued talking with him. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for permission, and he was also allowed in the same state, and they continued talking. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for permission, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up and arranged his clothes. Then he came in and they talked. (The narrator Muhammad says: I do not say that the coming of all three happened on the same day.) When he left, Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you did not pay any attention, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and you still did not pay any attention, but when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you sat up and arranged your clothes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Should I not feel shy before a man before whom even the angels feel shy?
