Hadith 1633

The conqueror of Persia, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), says that Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter, and at that time, there were women of the Quraysh sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), talking to him, speaking a lot, and their voices were raised. When Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called out, they got up and ran to hide. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) permission to enter, and he (the Prophet) was smiling. Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “May Allah always keep you smiling, O Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I was amazed at these women who were sitting with me; as soon as they heard your voice, they rushed into veils.” Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah! They should fear you more.” Then he said to the women, “O enemies of yourselves! You fear me but do not fear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?” They replied, “Yes, you are harsher and more stern than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, whenever Satan meets you on a path, he leaves that path and takes another.”
