Mukhtasar Muslim

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that it was said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Who is the most honorable among the people?" He (peace be upon him) said: "The one who has the most fear of Allah." They said: "We are not asking about this." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then the most honorable among the people is Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him), the Prophet of Allah, son of a Prophet, son of a Prophet, and the Khalil of Allah (peace be upon him)." They said: "We are not asking about this." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Are you asking about the Arab tribes?" So, the best among the Arabs are those who were the best in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, and they are also the best in Islam, when they gain understanding in the religion."
