Hadith 156

Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman (the foster nephew of Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) says: I and the foster brother of Ummul Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (Abdullah bin Yazid) went to her and asked about the ritual bath (ghusl) of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, after sexual impurity. She called for a vessel that could hold a sa’ (a measure) of water, and she performed ghusl behind a curtain between us and herself, and she poured water over her head three times. Abu Salamah said that the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to cut their hair and keep it up to their ears. (The pure wives did this after the passing of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to abandon adornment, because hair is an adornment for women.)
