‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was given a choice between two matters (by Allah Almighty), he would choose the easier one, provided it was not sinful. And if it was sinful, then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would keep farthest from it. And never did he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) take revenge for his own sake from anyone, but if someone acted contrary to the command of Allah, then he would punish him.
