Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Suffa were needy, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once said: "Whoever has food for two people, let him take a third with him. And whoever has food for four, let him take a fifth or a sixth." And Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought three people, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took ten people (and the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was also about ten, so it was as if half the food was for the guests). Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "There was no one in our house except my father and my mother." The narrator said: "Perhaps he also mentioned his wife, and a servant who was in the house of mine and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)." Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ate the night meal with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then stayed there until the 'Isha prayer was performed. After finishing the prayer, he returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and remained there until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) slept. After a large part of the night had passed, as much as Allah willed, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came home, and his wife said: 'Where have you been, leaving your guests?' Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Did you not feed them?' She said: 'The guests did not eat until you came.' She had presented the food to the guests, but the guests did not eat before him." Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I hid (out of fear of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr's displeasure), so he called me: 'O lazy, ignorant, or foolish one! May your nose be cut off,' and he spoke harshly to me, and said to the guests: 'Eat, even though this food is not pleasant (because it is untimely).' And Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'By Allah, I will never eat from it.' Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'By Allah, every morsel we picked up, the food below increased, until we were all satisfied, and the food became even more than it was before.' Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw that the food was as much as before, or even more, so he said to his wife: 'O sister of Bani Firas (her name was Umm Ruman, and Bani Firas was her tribe), what is this?' She replied: 'By the coolness of my eyes (meaning the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), it is even more than before, three times as much.' (This was a miracle of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. From this hadith, it is known that miracles can appear from the friends of Allah.) Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ate from it and said: 'The oath I took was from Satan (i.e., out of anger).' Then he took a morsel from it, and after that, he took the food to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I was also there in the morning, and there was a treaty between us and a people (i.e., a pact of peace). When the term of the pact ended, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) appointed twelve men as our leaders, and each had people with him, and Allah knows how many people were with each. Then that food was given to them, and all the people ate from it.
