Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): When the trench was being dug (around Madinah), I found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) hungry. I returned to my wife and said, "Do you have anything (to eat)? For I have found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) extremely hungry." She brought out a bag in which there was a sa’ (measure) of barley, and we had a young goat at home. I slaughtered it, and my wife ground the flour. She finished at the same time as I did, and I cut the meat and put it in the pot. Then, as I was about to return to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my wife said, "Do not disgrace me before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and those with him (because the food is little, so do not invite too many people)." I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and quietly said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have slaughtered a young goat and prepared a sa’ of barley flour that we had. Please come with a few people." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out, "O people of the trench! Jabir has prepared a feast for you, so come!" And he said, "Do not take the pot off the fire, and do not bake the bread until I come." Then I went home, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also arrived. He was in front, and the people were behind him. I went to my wife, and she said, "You will be in trouble, and people will blame you." I said, "I only did what you told me (but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, announced it and invited everyone)." I brought out the flour, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put his blessed lips on it and prayed for blessing. Then he went to our pot, spat in it, and prayed for blessing. After that, he said (to my wife), "Call a woman who can bake bread with you, and keep taking out from the pot with a ladle, but do not take it off the fire." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There were a thousand men with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I swear, all of them ate until they were satisfied and left, and the pot was still boiling as it was, and the flour was the same, and bread was still being made from it.
