Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of the Battle of Tabuk. During this journey, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would combine two prayers. Thus, he would combine and perform Zuhr and Asr together, and Maghrib and Isha together. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the prayer. Then he came out and combined and performed Zuhr and Asr together, then went inside. After that, he came out again and combined and performed Maghrib and Isha together. After this, he said: "Tomorrow, if Allah wills, you will reach the spring of Tabuk, and you will not reach it before sunrise. Whoever among you reaches the spring, let him not touch its water until I arrive." Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then we reached the spring, and two men had reached there before us. The condition of the spring's water was such that it was as much as a shoelace, and that too was trickling slowly. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked those two men, "Did you touch its water?" They said, "Yes." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked them (because they had acted against his instruction) and conveyed to them what Allah had willed. Then the people collected a little water in a vessel with their hands. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his hands and face in it, then poured that water into the spring. The spring began to gush forth and flow, and the people (gave water to their animals and themselves). After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Mu'adh! If you live long, you will see that the water of this (spring) will fill gardens." (This too was a great miracle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). There were thirty thousand men in that army, and in another narration, it is said there were seventy thousand men.)
