‘Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that during the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we put medicine in his mouth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured and said, “Do not put medicine in my mouth.” We said among ourselves that he dislikes medicine because of his illness (so it is not necessary to act on this). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) regained consciousness, he said, “Medicine should be put in the mouth of all of you except Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), as he was not present here.” (He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this punishment to those who did not obey his command.)
