Narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that she bought a cushion (the cloth on top of a mattress) which had pictures on it. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it, he stood at the door and did not enter. I recognized that there was distress on the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I repent before Allah and His Messenger. What is my sin?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What is this cushion?" I said, "I bought it for you to sit on and lean against." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Those who make these pictures will be punished, and it will be said to them, 'Give life to what you have created.'" Then he said, "The angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures." And in another narration, it is mentioned that I made two pillows from it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would rest on them in the house.
