Jabala bin Suhaim says that Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give us dates to eat, and in those days people were experiencing hardship (regarding food). We were eating when Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by and said: "Do not eat two dates together (at once), because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that, except when you have permission from your brother." Shu’bah said: I think the statement about seeking permission is from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
