Hadith 1227

Wa'il al-Hadrami says that Salamah bin Zaid Jufi (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Noble Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If our leaders are appointed who demand their rights from us but do not give us our rights, what do you command us to do?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away (i.e., did not answer). He asked again, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) still did not answer. Then, when he asked a second or third time, Ash'ath bin Qais dragged Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Listen and obey. The burden of their deeds is upon them and the burden of your deeds is upon you." In another narration, it is mentioned that Ash'ath bin Qais dragged him, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Listen and obey. Their deeds are with them and your deeds are with you."
