‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) says that’ the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs. Then he said, “What is the matter with these people and dogs?” Then he permitted keeping dogs for hunting and for the protection of livestock (that is, for the protection of goats), and said, “When a dog drinks from a vessel by putting its mouth in it, wash it seven times and scrub it with earth the eighth time.” And in the narration of Yahya bin Sa‘id, it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted keeping dogs for hunting, for goats, and for the protection of crops.
