Hadith 1181

´Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Muhajirun came from Makkah to Madinah empty-handed, and the Ansar had land and trees (that is, they had both fields and orchards). So the Ansar distributed their wealth among the Muhajirun in such a way that they would give them half the fruit every year, and the Muhajirun would work and labor. The mother of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, whose name was Umm Sulaym and who was also the mother of Abdullah bin Abi Talhah, who was the maternal brother of Sayyiduna Anas, gave a date palm tree to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave that tree to his freed slave woman, Umm Ayman, who was the mother of Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him). (From this, it is understood that Umm Sulaym had given that tree to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift, and if she had only given the fruit to eat, how could the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) have given it to Umm Ayman?) Ibn Shihab said that Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to Madinah after the battle of Khaybar, the Muhajirun returned the things that the Ansar had given them, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also returned my mother’s orchard to her, and gave Umm Ayman, in its place, from his own garden. Ibn Shihab said that Umm Ayman, who was the mother of Usamah bin Zayd, was the slave woman of Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib (who was the father of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him), and she was from Abyssinia. When Amina gave birth to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) after the death of his father, she (Umm Ayman) raised him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grew up, he freed her, then married her to Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him), and she passed away five months after the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
