Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left the slain of Badr lying as they were for three days. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to them and called out to them, saying: "O Abu Jahl bin Hisham, O Umayyah bin Khalaf, O Utbah bin Rabi'ah, and O Shaybah bin Rabi'ah! Did you find the promise of Allah to be true? For I have found the promise of my Lord to be true." When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying this, he submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! How can they hear and when will they answer? They have become dead and decayed." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you do not hear what I am saying any better than they do. However, they cannot reply." Then, by the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), they were dragged and thrown into the well of Badr. (That is, only the Prophet's words were being heard by them.)
