Hadith 2159
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): A drunkard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he (the Prophet) said: "Beat him." Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Some of us beat him with their hands, some with their shoes, and some with their clothes. When they had finished beating him, someone said to him, "May Allah disgrace you." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard these words, he said: "Do not say this, and do not help Satan against him by saying such words."

It is narrated from Amir al-Mu'minin Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he used to say: "If I (that is, Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) establish a prescribed punishment (hadd) on someone and he dies, then I will not feel any distress over it, except in the case of a drunkard; if he dies, then I will pay his blood money, because no specific prescribed punishment has been issued regarding him from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."
