Hadith 2142
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: "O Abdur Rahman bin Samurah! Do not ask for authority, because if it is given to you as a result of your asking, then you will be left to it (without divine help), but if it is given to you without your asking, then you will be helped in it (by Allah). And when you swear an oath (not to do something) and then you see that it is better to do it, then offer expiation for your oath and do that (better) thing."

Hadith 2143
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "We have come after the previous nations, but on the Day of Resurrection we will be foremost." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! If any of you insists on his oath regarding his family, then the sin of this insistence in the sight of Allah is greater than the sin of the expiation that has been made obligatory upon him."
