Hadith 1847
Narrated Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him): I married my sister to a man, and he divorced her. When her 'iddah was completed, he again sent a proposal for marriage. I replied to him, "I had married her to you and made her your wife, and honored you, but you divorced her. Now you are sending a proposal again? By Allah! She will never return to you." That man was not bad (he was righteous), and my sister was also willing to return to him. At that time, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "Do not prevent them from marrying their (former) husbands" (Al-Baqarah: 232). I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Now (since Allah's command has come), I will surely comply (and marry her to him)." Then he married his sister to him. (Note: In the blessed verse, the address is to the guardians (such as father, brother, etc.) of the woman, because it is their responsibility to arrange the marriage. If the guardian's permission was not necessary, the address would not have been to the guardians of the woman.)
