`Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken up to the heavens (i.e., during the Mi'raj), he said: "I came to a river on whose banks were domed tents made of hollow pearls. I asked Jibreel (may Allah be pleased with him), 'What is this?' He replied, 'This is (your river) Kawthar.'"

Hadith 1804
It was asked from Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) about the saying of Allah, "We have granted you Al-Kawthar." She said that Al-Kawthar is a river which has been given to your Noble Prophet (peace be upon him). On its banks are domed pearls, and there are (cups) goblets placed there in the number of stars.
