Hadith 1763
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that after the command of veiling was revealed, Umm al-Mu’minin Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) went out (wrapped in a sheet or similar covering) for a need. She was a woman of heavy build; whoever had recognized her before would still recognize her now. Anyway, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her and said, “O Sawda! By Allah! You are still not hidden from us; just see in what state you have come out.” Hearing this, she returned, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was eating dinner in my house and had a bone in his hand. So she came inside and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I had gone out for a need, but Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said such and such things.” (Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa, may Allah be pleased with her, says:) At that very moment, revelation began to come, then the state of revelation ceased, and the bone was still in the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he had not yet put it down. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, you (women) have been permitted to go out for your needs (work, etc.).”
