Hadith 1737
Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him):
We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in jihad and we had no women with us (and we could not bear separation from women), so we said: Should we get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from that and then allowed us to marry women temporarily (mut'ah) by giving a garment as a dowry. Then Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you..." __QUR_N__ (Temporary marriage was made unlawful at the battle of Khaybar. See the Book: On the Description of Battles... Chapter: The Description of the Battle of Khaybar...) __REF_N__
