Hadith 1685
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him): The horsemen of Banu Tamim came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "(O Prophet of Allah!) Appoint Qaqa' bin Ma'bad bin Zurara (may Allah be pleased with him) as their leader." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "(No), rather appoint Aqra' bin Habis (may Allah be pleased with him) as their leader." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You only want to oppose me (and have no other purpose)." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "My purpose is not to oppose you." So they both started arguing until their voices became loud. In the meantime, this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)" — the entire verse. (Al-Hujurat: 1)
