Hadith 1606
Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Amr Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and also participated in the Battle of Badr, says: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "What do you say about this: if I meet a disbeliever (in battle) and we both strive to kill each other, and he (the disbeliever) strikes my hand with a sword and cuts it off, then he takes refuge behind a tree and says, 'I have submitted to Allah (become a Muslim),' should I kill him after he says this?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "No, do not kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! He has cut off one of my hands, and after cutting it off, he says (that he has become a Muslim)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not kill him, for if you do, he will attain the rank you had before you killed him, and your condition will become like his was before he recited the testimony of Islam."

Hadith 1607
Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the day of the Battle of Badr, I encountered ‘Ubaydah bin Sa‘id bin ‘As, and he was so covered in armor that only his two eyes were visible, and his nickname was Abu Dhat al-Karsh. He said, “I am Abu Dhat al-Karsh.” I attacked him with my spear and struck his eye, and he died. (Sayyiduna Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him) says: When he died, I placed my foot on his corpse and, stretching out both hands, with great difficulty pulled the spear out of his eye; both its edges had become bent. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me for that spear, so I gave it to him. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I took it back. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me for that spear, so I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for it, and I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, I took it back. Then Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for it, so I gave it to him. Then, when Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, it remained with Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and his children. Finally, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) asked them for it, and it remained with him until he was martyred.

Hadith 1608
Lady Ruba'i bint Mu'awwidh (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me the morning after my wedding (i.e., on the day after the wedding night). Some girls were beating the duff at that time and were praising those of their elders who were martyred on the day of Badr. One of the girls began to say: "Among us is a Prophet (peace be upon him) who knows what will happen tomorrow." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not say this, and say what you were saying before."

Hadith 1610
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): When Hafsa bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her) became a widow—her husband Khunais bin Hudhafa Sahmi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and had participated in the Battle of Badr, died in Madinah—then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I met Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) to him and said, “(She is a widow), if you wish, I can marry her to you?” He said, “I will think about it and inform you.” So I waited for several nights. Then (when I met him) he said, “At the moment, I think it is better that I do not marry.” Then I met Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, “If you wish, I can marry Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) to you?” But Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) remained silent and did not reply to me, so I became more upset with him than I was with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). I waited for several more nights, then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent a proposal to Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), so I married her to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). After that, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) met me and said, “Perhaps you were upset with me when you mentioned Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) to me and I did not reply to you?” I said, “Yes, I was.” He said, “The reason I did not reply to you was that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had mentioned Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) to me (i.e., whether he should marry her), and I could not disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had decided not to marry her, then surely I would have married her.”
