Hadith 1570
´Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that´ on the day of the Battle of Uhud, when the Muslims fled leaving the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) stood in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) shielding him with a leather shield (so that the arrows of the disbelievers would not hit the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) was a great archer and used to draw the bow with great strength. Two or three of his bows broke that day, and whenever any Muslim passed by with a quiver of arrows, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say: "Put all these arrows in front of Abu Talha." Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his head to look at the disbelievers, so Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, do not raise your head, lest any of the arrows of the disbelievers strike you. My chest is shielding you." And I (Anas, may Allah be pleased with him) saw (in this battle) Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) that they had lifted their clothes, exposing their shins, quickly carrying water skins and pouring water into people's mouths, then returning, filling the skins, carrying them, and pouring water into people's mouths (I saw their anklets). That day, the sword fell from the hand of Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) two or three times.
