Hadith 1392
Narrated Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying from the pulpit in a sermon: "Kill snakes wherever you find them, and do not leave alive the two (white) striped ones and the one with a cut tail, for they cause blindness and cause pregnant women to miscarry." Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was chasing a snake to kill it when Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to me (and said): Do not kill it. So I said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has ordered us to kill snakes. He said: Indeed, but after that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade killing house snakes. (Az-Zuhri said:) Such snakes are called 'al-'awamir' (because they stay in the house for a long time, they are called 'awamir', meaning long-lived ones).
