Hadith 1084
`Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (bin Rafi') رضي الله عنه narrates from his uncle Sayyiduna Zuhair bin Rafi' رضي الله عنه that he said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade us from a practice which used to make things very easy for us. I said: Whatever the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم has said is the truth. He said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم called me and said: "What do you do with your fields?" I said: We lease them out for a quarter (of the produce), and (sometimes) for a few wasqs of dates and barley. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Do not do so. Either cultivate them yourselves, or have them cultivated (by someone), or keep them with you." Sayyiduna Rafi' رضي الله عنه says: Whatever was commanded, "we heard and accepted wholeheartedly."

Hadith 1085
'(It is narrated from Nafi' رحمه الله that)' Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما used to lease out his fields during the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, and during the eras of Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman رضي الله عنهم, and at the beginning of the rule of Sayyiduna Muawiyah رضي الله عنه. After that, the narration of Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij رضي الله عنه was mentioned to him, that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade leasing out fields. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنهما went to Sayyiduna Rafi' رضي الله عنه, and I (Nafi') also went with him. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما asked him, and he informed that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade leasing out fields. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما said, "Do you know that during the time of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, we used to lease out our fields for a quarter of the produce or for some amount of straw?"

Hadith 1086
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): I know that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), fields used to be given on rent. Afterwards, Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) thought that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had given a new ruling about this which he was not aware of, so he (out of caution) stopped renting out fields.
